P&O cruises has announced that it will go smoke free in all inside areas on board three of its ships.

Beginning this October, the line's two family-friendly ships, Oceana and Ventura, and its adults-only Artemis will be stubbing out the cigarettes for good in all inside spaces. There will, however, be outside smoking areas allocated on all ships -- and passengers will be able to smoke on their cabin balconies.

By July 2007, the whole of Britain had enforced the U.K. legislation to ban smoking in public spaces, and being a British line, P&O Cruises appears to be following suit.

In an official release, Managing Director Nigel Esdale is quoted as saying: "We hope that becoming smoke free will give all our passengers, especially children, a cleaner and more pleasant environment in which at enjoy their holiday onboard."
